Dear St. Lukers,
Growing up in a different denomination, I had no concept of Confirmation. It wasn’t until I was in the 11th grade that I had a glimpse of what it even meant. It was a friend who would share with me every week all she was learning about in her confirmation class. She told me about all she was discovering about her faith and about her church, about John Wesley and about grace. It was then that I learned that God had even more for me to discover.
Every year the students at United Methodist Churches all over are invited to participate in Confirmation. This year, DISCOVERY has been a journey through the confirmation process for our youth in 8th grade (and above if they have not yet participated). They were invited to journey alongside 13 mentors as they discovered their faith and their church. These students have been meeting Sunday afternoons throughout the spring and learning about the core values of St. Luke’s and the greater United Methodist Church. They have been learning from our pastors, leaders, and their peers. Not only have they learned about grace, salvation, and God’s presence in their lives, but they have also been serving in the church during worship, and serving in East Winter Garden.
Please join us in celebrating them on Sunday, April 28 at 4:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary as they are confirmed and they take this discovery to St. Luke’s Partnership. (There will be a reception to follow in The Youth Center.)
You are also invited to serve and continue the journey with them. Serving in our youth ministry is a great opportunity to “Be 1 of 5” adults in the life of our youth. Email me email@example.com with questions or to volunteer. I’d love to get coffee with you and discover the ways that God might be calling you to pour into the lives of our youth, and how you can be a part of what God is doing in the youth ministry here at St. Luke’s.
Grace and Peace,
Brandon Sangster, Director of Youth Ministries
