Frequently Asked Questions – Gifts:
I can’t make a big gift – my small gift will be a drop in the bucket. Will it really matter?
It’s not about equal, large gifts – it’s about equal sacrifice. Not everyone can make a six-figure (or even a five-figure) gift – but everyone can give. Money is a critical component in kingdom building. Our vision will become a reality only if everyone participates. For some families, a $300 gift, spread out over three years, is a very large sacrifice – one that’s made on faith and one that brings them closer to God, because they have heard God’s call, answered it, and will be blessed in good measure because of their sacrificial gift. For others who have been blessed tremendously in a financial way, a $100,000 gift is of equal sacrifice to the gift made by the first family. It will take sacrificial gifts of all sizes, from all families, to fulfill this vision.
Remember the story of the widow’s offering (Luke 21:1-4)? Whose gift was most pleasing to God?
Will a price tag be placed on rooms/buildings/bricks?
We promote giving to the entire campaign rather than “sell” portions of it.
Will there be naming opportunities?
If there are persons making significantly large gifts who desire such an opportunity, we would be delighted to consider this option.
Are folks being encouraged to make gifts of stocks/jewelry/real estate, etc.?
Stock gifts, YES by all means. Real estate, yes, depending on the marketability (sometimes we are offered properties which we cannot market.) Jewelry or other household or personal assets like artwork: no. We were unable to sell china, furs and other items that we received during the last campaign. We encourage donors to sell on their own and donate the cash proceeds.
When can we make the first gift?
You can make a gift to the campaign at any time, but pledge cards will be distributed several weeks before Commitment Sunday (November 20th.) If you would like to spread your gift over four years, rather than three, for tax purposes, you may want to make your first gift before the end of this calendar year.
