Youth

St. Luke’s Youth Ministries believes in ACCEPTANCE of ALL! We welcome you with radical HOSPITALITY into our Christ-Centered COMMUNITY, so that together we can grow in DISCIPLESHIP and SERVE others.

     @StLukesUMCYouth

As we come back together, either in our groups, ReConnect events, etc., St. Luke’s top priority is the health and safety of our congregation, staff, and community. We want to create a healthy environment that attends to the physical, mental, and spiritual needs of our youth. In attending any St. Luke’s Youth gathering (on and/or off campus), we ask that all youth and adults adhere to our guidelines.
Please see the COVID-19 PANDEMIC tab below for info and updates,

The time has come for us to relaunch weekly youth ministry programming here at St. Luke’s! We are excited to have our youth not only ReConnect monthly (as we started in September), but to now ReEngage with each other and our adult leaders in smaller community GROUPS. We’ll relaunch a new weekly format and schedule (STARTING SUNDAY OCTOBER, 11TH) as we continue to create a Christ Centered group for middle and high school students where YOU BELONG to Beloved Community, YOU GROW to Awaken Disciples, and YOU SERVE to Reveal The Kingdom.

We’ve always focused on growth in our faith, but what if we took it a step further? It’s time for us to Awaken Disciples as we continue growing in faith through small groups. Through Small Groups we will have fun and dive deep as we engage in relevant discussions about faith and how it impacts our lives and those around us. Our amazing team of adult leaders will be a vital part in this as we strive for authentic relationships and connection with our youth, leading to real “Be 1 of 5” discipleship and giving them a sense of belonging.

Youth – Arrive and check-in at The Youth Center. You’ll have your temperature taken and be asked to fill out the St. Luke’s Health Declaration if you have not already done so. You’ll then be directed to your group for an awesome time of connection.
If you can’t join an in-person group, we will have a virtual option for you on Zoom that all are welcome to.

We will also host a monthly ReConnect and Worship events for middle school and high school. More info on that to come.

Parents, if you’d like to be a group leader or a host (a new opportunity), please email Brandon at bsangster@st.lukes.org.

Come show your creativity… or just have fun with paint and canvas!

Here at the Youth Center on Saturday October 24th from 6pm – 8pm, we’ll reconnect and worship through art.

Cost for this event is $5 and spots are limited.

COVID-19 PANDEMIC

As we come back together, either in our groups, ReConnect events, etc., St. Luke’s top priority is the health and safety of our congregation, staff, and community. We want to create a healthy environment that attends to the physical, mental, and spiritual needs of our youth. In attending any St. Luke’s Youth gathering (on and/or off campus), we ask that all youth and adults adhere to our guidelines.

  • Fill out our St. Luke’s Health Declaration before or upon arrival Masks/Face Coverings will be worn by everyone at all times.
  • Follow Physical Distancing Practices.
  • Remain 6 feet from one another when possible.
  • Wash hands and/or use hand sanitizer frequently.
  • Do not attend and inform the St. Luke’s Youth Ministry Director if:
  • Your school has issued you a “Notice to Quarantine” due to COVID-1
  • You have come into contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 in the last two weeks.
  • You have a fever of 100.4 or higher and/or any other symptoms of COVID-19
  • All are asked to refrain from hugging and high fiving during our events. Instead try elbow touches, “air shakes” and foot fives. All are encouraged to find creative ways to greet one other without touching hands.

Yes we are still in a pandemic… and things will look different, but that’s ok! We’ll wear masks, but that’s ok… We will all smell like hand sanitizer and be socially distant, but that too is ok because WE’LL BE TOGETHER!

If you (parents and/or youth) have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Brandon by phone (407) 955- 4456 or by email (bsangster@st.lukes.org)

STUDENT LEADERSHIP

We are ministry that believes in ACCEPTANCE of ALL! We welcome you with radical HOSPITALITY into our Christ-Centered COMMUNITY, so that together we can grow in DISCIPLESHIP and SERVE others. Student leadership will now play a big part in this mission and we have developed a new structure that mirrors that of our church ministry teams. Rather than applying for a specific role (other than if you wish to be a Team Captain), you will apply to be on a team – CONNECTGROW, or SERVE.

The WORSHIP team will consist of our Youth Praise Band and Youth Tech Team. You can also be a part of this team, but by audition/training and interview only. Contact Antony Larry alarry@st.lukes.org  for Youth Praise Band info, and Brandon Sangster bsangster@st.lukes.org for Youth Tech Team info.

Our goal is to provide a cohesive opportunity in leadership development with a strong partnership between adult leaders and student leaders. This team oriented format is sure to provide growth of both our students and our youth ministries in a positive way.

These will be point persons that works with their team to create ideas for the development of youth ministry programming and events, and will act as a liaison between their team and the Youth Ministry Director. Team Captains will be selected from 8th Graders and High School Juniors & Seniors that apply and interview. The Worship Team Captains will be our Praise Band Leader(s) and Stage Manager(s).

All Team Members will be encouraged to be an active part of all youth ministry programming and events and will attend at least one Youth Leadership meeting per quarter and scheduled team meetings. There will also be a Student Leaders day-retreat in the fall that all team members are to make every effort to attend.

Parents: If you are interested in helping a specific team we’ll be looking for Parent Volunteers to help in that capacity. Please email Brandon Sangster at bsangster@st.lukes.org for more information or if you are interested.

Please read thoroughly through the detailed info for each team before applying (Click here for St. Luke’s Youth Student Leadership details). The application will also include a link to take the Spiritual Gifts Survey which will assist in team and leader selections. Applications for 2020-2021 Student Leadership are now being accepted and are due Sunday, July 12th.

WHERE TO FIND YOUTH MINISTRIES

The Youth Center is located on the back side of campus, across from the Sanctuary and in front of building A.

COMMUNICATION & COMMUNITY ON SLACK

We have adopted a new great way to get and stay informed and in community through SLACK. With SLACK, we will be able to send you messages, pictures, videos, etc. so that you’re set up for all that we have planned in this time and moving forward. We’ll send links to all the Zoom Gatherings, event registrations, Netflix Parties, and more each week. Don’t worry about not being too tech savvy! It’s a really easy to navigate messaging app that will make our communication and youth ministry community even better.

A message board, group chat, and so much more that’ll keep us connected. It’s almost like our own social media platform, but so much secure and safer than others like Instagram, TikTok, and SnapChat. You’ll be set in channels where you can message your friends, leaders, and small groups. It’s the most fun group chats with all your favorite people! Youth will communicate with youth, and Parents we even have channels for you too! (Adult Leaders will be able to communicate with Youth and Parents) Be sure to adjust your notifications, and you can do so per channel you’re in so you’ll only get the notifications on the stuff you want.
