Youth

St. Luke’s Youth Ministries believes in ACCEPTANCE of ALL! We welcome you with radical HOSPITALITY into our Christ-Centered COMMUNITY, so that together we can grow in DISCIPLESHIP and SERVE others.

     @StLukesUMCYouth

With the unfortunate cancellations of Summer Mission Trips and Warren Willis Camp Week, we have been working diligently and prayerfully to plan for a summer that none of us expected. We are working with our church leadership and Reopening Task Force, and keeping care and the health of our youth and their families as a first priority. As we continue to work through this time and we are able to determine when we will be able to host groups and events, we will communicate that info to you.
We will continue to have these weekly online connection opportunities for the duration of the summer!

As the summer weeks progress and we enter different phases, we are hoping to offer events for youth to ReConnect, ReEngage, & ReGroup. St. Luke’s is concerned with the safety of your family and takes the COVID-19 health risks seriously. We want to create a healthy environment that attends to the physical, mental, and spiritual needs of our youth. If you have any questions, email Brandon Sangster at bsangster@st.lukes.org. Look to our Community on SLACK (as well as further emails and social media posts) about more opportunities for connection with youth this summer.

STUDENT LEADERSHIP

We are ministry that believes in ACCEPTANCE of ALL! We welcome you with radical HOSPITALITY into our Christ-Centered COMMUNITY, so that together we can grow in DISCIPLESHIP and SERVE others. Student leadership will now play a big part in this mission and we have developed a new structure that mirrors that of our church ministry teams. Rather than applying for a specific role (other than if you wish to be a Team Captain), you will apply to be on a team – CONNECTGROW, or SERVE.

The WORSHIP team will consist of our Youth Praise Band and Youth Tech Team. You can also be a part of this team, but by audition/training and interview only. Contact Antony Larry alarry@st.lukes.org  for Youth Praise Band info, and Brandon Sangster bsangster@st.lukes.org for Youth Tech Team info.

Our goal is to provide a cohesive opportunity in leadership development with a strong partnership between adult leaders and student leaders. This team oriented format is sure to provide growth of both our students and our youth ministries in a positive way.

CONNECT Team

YOU BELONG” to Beloved Community

Connect and care by navigating and celebrating life, and building community through radical hospitality, monthly social events, and retreats/camp.

  • The Connect Team’s main goal is to create (and maintain) a culture of community and inclusion within our ministry, living out our statement “You Belong”.

GROW Team

“YOU GROW” to Awaken Disciples

Growing in faith through small groups, worship, and acts of piety.

  • The Grow Team’s main goal is leading among peers in discipleship, mentoring, and assisting in worship.

SERVE Team

YOU SERVE” to Reveal the Kingdom

Serving in monthly missions and outreach to the community, and reaching beyond through awareness, action, and advocacy.

  • The Serve Team’s main goal is to engage our youth in service and outreach.

Team Captains

Each team – Connect, Serve, Grow – will have 4 Team Captains (2 Middle School and 2 High School). These will be point persons that works with their team to create ideas for the development of youth ministry programming and events, and will act as a liaison between their team and the Youth Ministry Director. Team Captains will be selected from 8th Graders and High School Juniors & Seniors that apply and interview. The Worship Team Captains will be our Praise Band Leader(s) and Stage Manager(s).

All Team Members will be encouraged to be an active part of all youth ministry programming and events and will attend at least one Youth Leadership meeting per quarter and scheduled team meetings. There will also be a Student Leaders day-retreat in the fall that all team members are to make every effort to attend.

Parents: If you are interested in helping a specific team we’ll be looking for Parent Volunteers to help in that capacity. Please email Brandon Sangster at bsangster@st.lukes.org for more information or if you are interested.

Please read thoroughly through the detailed info for each team before applying (Click here for St. Luke’s Youth Student Leadership details). The application will also include a link to take the Spiritual Gifts Survey which will assist in team and leader selections. Applications for 2020-2021 Student Leadership are now being accepted and are due Sunday, July 12th.

COMMUNICATION & COMMUNITY ON SLACK

We have adopted a new great way to get and stay informed and in community through SLACK. With SLACK, we will be able to send you messages, pictures, videos, etc. so that you’re set up for all that we have planned in this time and moving forward. We’ll send links to all the Zoom Gatherings, event registrations, Netflix Parties, and more each week. Don’t worry about not being too tech savvy! It’s a really easy to navigate messaging app that will make our communication and youth ministry community even better.

A message board, group chat, and so much more that’ll keep us connected. It’s almost like our own social media platform, but so much secure and safer than others like Instagram, TikTok, and SnapChat. You’ll be set in channels where you can message your friends, leaders, and small groups. It’s the most fun group chats with all your favorite people! Youth will communicate with youth, and Parents we even have channels for you too! (Adult Leaders will be able to communicate with Youth and Parents) Be sure to adjust your notifications, and you can do so per channel you’re in so you’ll only get the notifications on the stuff you want.
