We will be collecting flood buckets full of cleaning supplies as well as monetary donations over the next three Sundays. Then on Sunday, September 17, we will join United Methodist churches throughout Florida, in dropping off our contributions in Lakeland so trucks can deliver what will hopefully be more than 4000 buckets to the United Methodist Committee on Relief depot in Baldwin, Louisiana.
One of the mighty ways God shows up in tragedies and crises is through the hearts of all God’s people. Now it’s our turn St. Luke’s! You can participate in the Hurricane Harvey recovery efforts in multiple tangible ways:
- Click here to make a financial donation to UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief). Trust that 100% of your donations will go to relief efforts in Texas and know the UMCOR relief teams are often the first in and last out during times of crisis.
- On Sunday after worship, pick up a flood bucket and a list of cleaning items to purchase. The list comes with instructions on exactly what to buy and how to pack cleaning items. You can also watch a 2-minute instructional video here. If you cannot find an item, just mark it on the bucket and we will help to find the exact item needed.
- Volunteers will be ready to assist you in making a financial contribution on Sunday if you wish to donate money through St. Luke’s. Click here to donate now. All donations will be used for the Hurricane Harvey Recovery efforts through UMCOR.
- Go to the UMCOR website here for information on how to purchase your own bucket and cleaning supplies.
If you would like to get your business and employees involved, please just let us know how many buckets to anticipate. You can contact Amy Winslow at email@example.com to ensure we have the vehicles to deliver our donations and for questions. We can help the Florida Conference reach our goal of more than 4000 buckets. The video below from Bishop and Rev. Carter shares more information about joining the movement.
