A Message from Pastor Beth

Picture this… me in a big orange pumpkin suit with a stem coming out of the top of my head and green, twirly vines hanging from neck... not my most “pastoral looking” moment, but fun nonetheless! This morning it was my turn to lead chapel time at our Child Development Center and the energy coming out of that group of 3, 4 and 5 year olds was enough to power a small town. :-) It was great to see them singing “Jesus Loves Me” with gusto while wiggling around, smiling and giggling at me in my pumpkin finery.

Children have so much to teach us about enjoying and living life in the moment. Jesus said in Matthew 19:14, “Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs.” I’m sure as Jesus experienced life as an adult he knew how hard it was to be free of worry and stress. He was surrounded by responsibilities and people looking to him for answers all the time. But he also knew that the innocence, hope and freedom found in the heart of a child is really what Kingdom life is all about.

This Sunday we have the opportunity to connect with our children at St. Luke’s and other children in the community through the celebration of Children’s Sabbath. St. Luke’s kids will be helping to lead the worship experiences through singing, prayer and dance. We will also be collecting new, average priced sneakers for children who need them at Pineloch Elementary School. These sneakers will be good visual reminders of the race Jesus has called each of us to run with perseverance as Pastor Bill and I continue the sermon series, “The Race of Your Life: A Stewardship Journey.”

Remember, no matter what our chronological age we are all children of God so bring your smile, your wiggle and your giggle to worship this week!

Blessings,
Beth
