A Message from Pastor Beth

Happy 2007! As we begin a new year together here at St. Luke’s we will also be beginning a new sermon series this Sunday, “Primetime Preaches!” Now we’ve all had the experience of flipping through 80 or more channels and not being able to find anything we want to watch. It would seem statistically impossible that this would be the case, but it’s happened to me more than once and I’m sure I’m not alone. However, most of us keep trying and T.V., the good, the bad and the ugly, has a great impact on our society and culture.

Over the next several weeks we’ll be thinking about some of the titles of today’s more popular primetime shows and how they relate to our Christian journey. This Sunday we’ll begin with ABC’s hit, “LOST.” We’ll be celebrating the sacrament of communion combined with our annual baptismal renewal service. All of us have had times in life when we’ve felt lost, stranded or abandoned… maybe you’re feeling this way right now. Whatever season of life we find ourselves in, the waters of baptism and the Lord’s Table symbolize new life and divine grace and are perfect places for us to find our bearings and claim our identity as beloved children of God.

It will be a blessing to gather around the table to share this special meal and reaffirm our baptismal vows of commitment to Christ and faithful discipleship. I hope to share this experience with you in worship this week!

With faith, hope and a compass for the journey,
Beth
