Hello Dear Friends, Last Sunday, Jan 7th our worship experience was by far the best one this year! Pastors Bill and Gary began our new sermon series “Primetime Preaches” and used the T.V. series “Lost” to reflect on the ways in which God finds us, and we find God, and thus, find ourselves. I do want to find myself, which means I need to like myself, and discover my place in the world, and the community, and find new ways to be true to my gifts, my calling, and my inner compass. All this is based on God’s great love, God’s unconditional acceptance, God’s amazing grace. Wow, I really want a big dose of that this year! And I have been thinking that until I really find myself, and like myself, and let this unconditional, amazing love of God embrace me so tight that I have to hold my breath, that I will be incomplete. And until I see myself as a person whose value is defined by the Gospel itself – that Jesus came into the world to save “lost people” and I’m often as lost as the next guy, maybe more so, that I will not have a burning passion to see other people “get found,” in the embrace of God. So let’s be “Love Healthy” this year – Love God, Love ourselves, and Love Others in amazing unconditional ways. Then the Gospel will unfold before our very eyes. This Sunday, Jan. 14th our new Associate Pastor Jennifer Stiles Williams will look at the game show “Deal, or No Deal” as a jumping off place for some interested reflection. I wonder what she will say? Don’t you. David Dr. David Stephens |
