A Message from Pastor David

Hello Dear Friends

Any moment when you show love, receive love, or share love, is a sacred moment. The word “sacred” means “set apart for a divine purpose” and love is THE DIVINE PURPOSE. If you even think about love, you enter the divine realm. If you mention it, or give a nod to it, or touch it with your little finger, God knows, because God is love. The cross is God’s big love plus sign, the empty grave is God’s loving open heart. If the sky was a parchment scroll and the ocean was filled with ink, enough still could not be written about God’s love.

People need it, children are drawn to it, relationships are sustained by it, preachers talk about it, counselors analyze it, and dogs wag their tails at it. The Bible says “love is stronger than death.” Love is the force of the universe which first creates, then moves all things toward fulfillment. Without love, stuff dies – your plants whither, your teeth rot, and your dog stops wagging his tail.

There is a rocking chair at my Mom and Dad’s house. I love to sit in it when I visit them. The chair was in a barn, collecting dust, when they first saw it. The wicker bottom was rotted out and the varnish was worn off. The owner of the chair – Mrs. Robinson, told them the story behind it, then she gave it to them.

She had rocked her only son in it for 14 years. He was a special needs child and never grew beyond the age of 4. After 14 he was too big to rock in the chair, so she gave him snacks in it until it wore out. He lived to be 50 years old.

Three months before he died, Mrs. Robinson asked my parents to pray for them. She was in her 70’s and afraid he would outlive her, for she was still his caregiver. She wanted them to pray that he would die before she died – an unusual prayer – to say the least. They prayed together, and three months later he died. And then - three months later she died.

That rocking chair is the throne of God, that’s why I like to sit in it.

Where do you see love? This Sunday in worship we will consider how we might put more love into our days, so that they might become “sacred.” Kingdom living is Sacred Living, and sacred living is all about love. Hope you will join us.

David
