Dear Saints: I am writing this to you from a hotel in Montgomery, Alabama, where six other St. Luke’s members and staff have joined me for the 2007 United Methodist Large Church Initiative. Gathering the pastors, staff members, and leaders of our denomination’s largest congregations is an annual event, hosted by the LCI team, the General Board of Discipleship, and a key local church. The event has been hosted all over the United States, and next year, in January, 700 or more leaders from United Methodist churches will come to St. Luke’s. This week our St. Luke’s team will be promoting the Orlando event. There is a special portion of our website devoted to the Large Church Initiative: www.st.lukes.org/LCI and by checking the site regularly you can keep up with the progress we are making to offer our sisters and brothers in ministry an experience which is both helpful and renewing. We will need hundreds of St. Luke’s hosts for this event, so I hope you will be enthusiastically responsive to our requests for LCI host and task teams when we return from Montgomery. This week we are at Frazer Memorial UMC, a congregation best known for its commitment to have every member involved in ministry. People want to come to St. Luke’s because of what we are learning about strategic alignment for ministry in our local church and about how we organize for outreach in our community and the world. Leading churches are passionate churches. And passionate churches are all about passionate people. Join Jenn and me on Sunday as we explore what it means to be vitally engaged in kingdom building in the name of Jesus Christ. With, faith, hope, and love, Bill |
