A Message from Pastor Jenn

In the previous church I served, we prepared for Pentecost with the same fervor we prepared for Easter. It had become the tradition to activate our members in radical service and then come together in a huge celebration for Pentecost. Everything was ready for a blended worship celebration with choirs, bands, videos, decorations and banners…until the morning of Pentecost when a squirrel got tangled up in the transformer above the church and all the power went out. No lights, no air, no electricity for equipment…nothing.

That day we held church in the dark and I preached my sermon ironically entitled “A Church with Power”. Gone were the bells and whistles, gone was congratulatory video to make us feel good about all we had done…all we could do was lift our voices in song and prayer and praise. It was the most amazing Sunday in the life of that church. That Pentecost we realized the true power of a church isn’t found in the bells and whistles – the Power of the Church is found in the people of God being moved by the Spirit to go into the world and make the Kingdom of God visible through THEIR DAILY LIVES.

Join us this Sunday as we celebrate Pentecost, the day the Holy Spirit empowered the first disciples to build the church. You will see first hand how the Spirit is causing St. Luke’s to take flight through members who have been moved by the sermon series to use their lives and resources to Spread their Wings.

See you in worship – and don’t forget to WEAR RED!

Grace and Peace – Jenn.
