A Note from Pastor Bill

Dear St. Luke’s Saints,

Well, how was “back to school” week? I heard lots of stories from parents about their kids’ first days at school. There was no shortage of cute stories and unexpected challenges. As old as I am, I still remember those first few days back at the desk. Things were pretty interesting when we started out: new books, new pencils, new rules, new faces, new teachers. But it didn’t take long for us to settle in to learning again. And the first thing we always did was review what he had supposedly learned the previous year.

Summer always seemed to have wiped the slate clean when it came to fractions and conjugations, and state capitals!

This coming Sunday it is sort of like “back to school” review for us at St. Luke’s. The next sermon series is titled: “What Are We Made Of?” (I know it shouldn’t end with a preposition, but “Of What Are We Made” just sounds a little too formal. So please, no emails from all you English grammar teachers out there!)

For the next seven weeks we will be reviewing our Vision and the Mission Essential components that are derived from it: Reach, Proclaim, Nurture, Guide, Deploy, and Support. Last week colorful banners were hung in the Welcome Halls designating the areas where we will be gathering under these essentials for information and for opportunities for servant ministry. They will also be a visual reminder of just what we are made of.

I hope you will make worship a priority this weekend. As we have been doing all month, we will be meeting in the sanctuary at 8, 9:30, 11, and 5:30 as we share both traditional and contemporary elements of worship and praise. You also will be given the opportunity to stake your claim in the Vision of St. Luke’s in a memorable way.

I will not be taking attendance, but I can’t speak for God on that one.

We’ll both be looking for you!

Bill Barnes
Lead Pastor
