A Note from Pastor Beth

Last Sunday in worship we gathered together in the sanctuary not as "traditional worshippers" or "contemporary worshippers" or "Habitat folks" or "Music folks" or "Upward Coaches" or "Stephen Ministers" but instead as people connected and committed to the work of God through the vision and mission at St. Luke's. Pastor Bill began our new sermon series entitled, “What Are We Made Of” and each family whether made up of one person or twenty people was invited to pound a stake in the ground by the cross in the circle driveway symbolizing their “stake in the vision of St. Luke’s.” It was AWESOME! :-)

If you missed it, never fear, because the sermon series will continue for the next six weeks in order help us understand and embrace the essential components of our vision and mission. Have you ever tried to bake a cake without an egg or put a desk together without all the hardware needed? When creating or working with most things there are essential ingredients needed, and trying to manage without them leads to a frustrating process and a less than desirable outcome. Our life as a community of disciples of Jesus Christ cannot escape this rule of thumb. If you have not already, I hope you will put your name on a stake and place it in the ground as a sign of your commitment or re-commitment to the vision God has given us here at St. Luke’s to build His Kingdom on earth of love, hope, justice and mercy.

This week we will be thinking specifically about our mission essential, “Support” as the ministry areas that under gird all others and help us be the more effective disciples here on our campus and out in the world. We will also be joining together in the sacrament of Holy Communion, another essential and amazing vessel of grace in our lives as a people of faith. On this Labor Day Weekend let’s not forget the labor of love we see in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus who is the center of all we do and all we are!

Blessings,
Beth
