Dear St. Luke’s Saints, As I write this, it is Tuesday afternoon and LCI (The Large Church Initiative Conference) is well under way. After planning for two years, we are now 1/3rd of the way through the event. I wish ALL of you could hear what I am hearing about our church, and I DO mean our CHURCH. Of course, the physical plant is in wonderful condition. But it’s the CHURCH they are most impressed with, and of course, lest you forget, the CHURCH is YOU. Over and over I hear the most wonderful comments about our servant volunteers, our hospitality, and our enthusiasm for welcoming all these guests to our campus. Thank you for sharing the spirit of St. Luke’s with our sisters and brothers from all over the country. The event began last night with the commemoration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Dr. Trudie Kibbe Reed, the President of Bethune-Cookman University reminded us of the important of still pursuing Dr. King’s and Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune’s dreams, and the Concert Chorale sang. As always, they received multiple standing ovations. It will be your turn again to stand and give glory to God for our university as the Chorale visits us on campus this coming Sunday. Under the direction of the ageless and tireless Dr. Rebecca Walker Steele, the Chorale will sing at all three morning services in the sanctuary. Dr. Gary Mason, from Belfast is here as a speaker for the Conference and will bring the message at the 9:30 am contemporary service. The Rev. LeeAnn Inman will preach there in the evening. This has been an amazing week already, and I can’t wait for the weekend! See you in church! Remember to bring a special offering for the student scholarships at Bethune-Cookman, and if you plane to attend more than one of their services, be prepared to give more than once! With faith, hope, and so much pride in you it’s almost a sin, Bill |
