A Note from Pastor Beth

Dear St. Luke’s Saints,

Tonight we begin our journey through the season of Lent at our Ash Wednesday worship experience at 7:00 pm in the Sanctuary. This will be a time when we reflect upon the struggles we face as human beings, repent of our sin and claim renewal for ourselves and the world through the forgiveness of Christ. Receiving the sign of the cross on your forehead in ashes serves as a reminder that even in the midst of your own mortality, you are a recipient of eternal life because of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. How humbling and what a privilege! I hope you will make attending this experience a priority as it will serve as a strong foundation for the weeks ahead leading to Holy Week and Easter.

If you were in worship last Sunday, hopefully, you picked up a 2008 Lenten Covenant card. It contained many different ways for you to embrace what it means to be a disciple through the spiritual disciplines of prayers, presence, gifts and service. We are asking our entire St. Luke’s family to utilize one or more of the opportunities provided over the next six weeks to grow in connection to God and commitment to living out faith in the world. If you haven’t yet received a card there will be plenty available this week in worship and throughout the campus. Also, you will be receiving an informational piece in the mail in the next few days which outlines the details of these opportunities and how you can get engaged. Below is the schedule for offerings both on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings. This is chance for all of us to come together and be spiritually formed during this holy time around tables for dinner and fellowship, as a community for worship and prayer, and in small groups for study, encouragement and challenge.

Earth Tones: The Landscape of Lent

Lent begins on February 6th with Ash Wednesday. During Lent we want you to grow in your relationship with God. We feel we can accomplish this growth through four ways: Prayers, Presence, Gifts & Service. St. Luke's is providing several options for your personal growth in each of these categories. Please visit www.st.lukes.org/Lent to learn more about The Landscape of Lent and find out how you can get involved. Classes begin on Sunday, February 10th and Wednesday, February 13th. Wednesday dinners begin on February 13th.

Safety/Security Alert:
Please be aware that even though you are on church property bad things can still happen. This past Sunday we had a person’s wallet stolen out of her purse while she was taking part in Communion. We remind you that if you leave personal items such as purses, briefcases, cell phones, laptops, etc. in your vehicle to lock them in the trunk. We have had cars broken into that have these items in plain view. We also want to remind you that we have security on site 5 nights out of 7 and custodial staffing 7 nights a week. Should you need assistance getting to your car or need to report any unusual activity please call 407-468-9310 or 407-468-7998. If you have any concerns or questions please feel free to contact Kelly Smith at 407-876-4991 x. 223 or ksmith@st.lukes.org.
