Sophia came to St. Luke’s United Method Church in November 2013. She officially became a member and joined staff in July 2014. She is a native to Orlando, Florida, where she earned her AA and AS degrees while learning to be a new mother to her awesome son, Michael. Sophia moved to Oregon in 2004 and completed her Honors BS and her MPH in Community Public Health with a Focus in Primary Health Care and Health Disparities. She moved back to Florida in 2009 and is currently in a Pastoral Counseling Training program where she will earn her Licensure to Counsel and PhD. She was commissioned as a Minster of Pastoral Care in May 2016 from her Ministerial Fellowship outside of St. Luke’s UMC.
Sophia absolutely loves serving others in whatever capacity she has the ability to and help others learn how to utilize their own resources, talents, interests and gifts! She has enjoyed serving in areas of volunteer service such as Family Promise, Coalition for the Homeless and the Shalom Prison Ministry as a Pen Pal. She has also enjoyed being a proud (well humble) member of the St. Luke’s United Method Church Gospel Choir in the past! Sophia and her son Michael currently live in Orlando where they enjoy family time together at home, shopping with her lovely mother and enjoying the comforts of a safe neighborhood where Michael frequently enjoys engaging in his talent for making music, creating art and playing video games with his friends!
