Blessing of the Animals
2007 Blessing of the Animals, Sunday October 14 at 2:00 p.m.
It that’s time again to welcome our furry, feathered and finned friends to St. Luke’s for the Blessing of the Animals! This is our seventh year of fun together under the tent so come join us on Sunday, October 14th at 2 p.m. Last year our children’s ministry participated handing out bottled water to all of our two-legged friends. They also made sure the four legged ones were happy with plenty of dog and cat treats.
The blessing of the animals is conducted during the month of October in churches all over the world in remembrance of St. Francis of Assisi’s love for all creatures. It is a special day for us to come together and thank God for the joy our pets bring and remember the ways animals enrich our lives. Our time together this year will include the children’s choir, the Canine Crusaders and information will be provided about how families can serve together and have fun with animals in need at the Humane Society. Also, all the children’s Sunday school classes will be collecting dog and cat food to be donated to the Humane Society. You can bring a donation of this sort to the event as well.
This short but meaningful service will be held will be under a tent outside so please bring lawn chairs or a blanket to sit on. For their own safety all dogs must be on a leash and all other animals must be safely contained. In case of inclement weather the event will be cancelled.
We hope you will come and bring those extra special additions to your family that bark, squeak, chirp, meow or even hiss for a beautiful fall afternoon of blessings together.
