A Note from Brandon Sangster-September 8, 2022

Dear St. Lukers,

Growing up in a different denomination, I had no concept of Confirmation. It wasn’t until I was in the 11th grade that I had a glimpse of what it even meant. It was a friend who would share with me every week all she was learning about in her Confirmation class. She told me all that she was discovering about her faith and her church, about John Wesley, and about grace. It was then that I learned that God had even more in store for me.

Every year the students at United Methodist Churches all over are invited to participate in Confirmation. Here at St. Luke’s, DISCOVERY is that Confirmation journey for our youth in 8th grade (and above if they have not yet participated). They are invited to come alongside adult mentors as they discover their faith and their church. These students will meet on Sunday afternoons throughout the fall and will learn about the core values of St. Luke’s, the greater United Methodist Church, and their faith as individuals. They’ll learn about grace, salvation, God’s presence in their lives, and the gifts they’ve been given to partner with God and with St. Luke’s to reveal the Kingdom.

Please mark your calendars and join us in celebrating these students on Sunday, December 4 at the 11:15 a.m. service in the Sanctuary. During worship they will be confirmed to take their faith from discovery to St. Luke’s Partnership (there will be a reception to follow in the Youth Center, all are welcome).

You are also invited to serve and continue the journey with them! Serving in our Youth Ministry is a great opportunity to “Be 1 of 5” adults in the life of our youth. Send me an email with questions or to see how you can get involved as a volunteer. I’d love to get coffee with you and discover the ways that God might be calling you to pour into the lives of our youth, and how you can be a part of what God is doing in St. Luke’s Youth Ministry.

Belong and Be Blessed,

Brandon Sangster

St. Luke’s Director of Youth Ministries
