A Note from Pastor Jad-July 1, 2021

Grace and Peace Beloved St. Lukers,

This Sunday is Independence Day here in the United States. Where we remember that a group of Colonist declared their independence from the King of England. Just a few weeks ago Juneteenth became a national holiday. A time to remember another step toward a more perfect union, toward more freedom for more of our citizens. As Americans we still have more work to do. As Methodists we would say…about ourselves “We are moving on toward perfection.”

While independence and self-determination have a very important place in civic life, as Disciples of Jesus Christ there is a greater emphasis on interdependence. Paul writes often in his letters to the early Christians that we are a body of believers, diverse in gifts, and graces yet with a common goal. That is part of why we gather together each week for worship either virtually or in person, to bring ourselves, our gifts and talents – as diverse as they and we are – together, interdependent on each other.

On Sunday we are looking at St. Luke’s Core Value of Hospitality. We will explore what Christ-centered Hospitality looks like as we seek to reveal the Kingdom by awakening disciples. You can help us shape our discipleship journey this fall by completing our brief survey.

This weekend as you celebrate, however you celebrate Independence Day, I hope you will also find some time for interdependence, and I hope to see you in worship (in-person or online) because you bring something unique and special to St. Luke’s.

Grace and peace,

Pastor Jad

Minister of Congregational Life

P.S. Just a reminder, St. Luke’s campus will be closed on Monday, July 5.
