A Note from St. Luke’s Pastors-April 7, 2022

Posted on April 7, 2022 at 9:43 am in .

IT’S HERE!! The holiest of weeks in our year.

This is the Holy Week which calls disciples of Jesus and proclaimers of the gospel to walk closely, attentively, and with open hearts to follow in his every footstep, whatever the cost. This week we are all invited to move…

  • through the gates of Jerusalem with palm branches shouting praise…
  • into an upper room to sit at a table of grace and let go of our egos to humbly allow our Rabbi to wash our feet, to offer us bread and cup, and hear his call to “go and do likewise…”
  • to a garden where we will prod ourselves to stay awake and pray while Jesus spends time alone, surrendering his will and letting go of any authority he could easily have chosen to use to defend himself, and instead let love be arrested by this world…
  • to the court of Pilate and find the courage to die to façade used to protect ourselves, much like Peter hid behind, and muster the strength to call out his name for release, or race to keep up with his cross processional and stand in front of him so he knows he does not die alone or in vain…
  • toward other disciples as we grieve, mourn, and wait for the days our Savior’s body sits in a borrowed tomb, realizing that he gave his life and died so we would not have to…
  • to the tomb, ready to offer our sacrifice of praise and anointing upon the one who we know will meet us, call us by name, and offer us new life.

Each step is important. We are walking the path of surrendering to the process of life, death, and new life assured for us because of the grace and love of Jesus the Christ.

We have a powerful Holy Week planned which I am sure the Holy Spirit will bring to life in ways we cannot imagine. Make room in your week for the journey, for this life cycle of hope and rebirth. Bring all of yourself and the things each of us have found we should allow to die, assured in the hope of resurrection. It’s the holiest of weeks where we truly understand and meet the holiest of saviors.
