Help donate, cook or serve a meal the Third Saturday of the month.
St. Luke’s partners with Coalition for the Homeless to provide a wholesome dinner each third Saturday of the month to people experiencing homelessness in Central Florida. In addition to providing the food and supplies, small teams of volunteers prep, cook, and serve dinner. To see how you can donate food or volunteer, please click the below link. Your generous support in making this possible for 37+ years is very much appreciated.
While the St. Luke’s UMC and Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida campuses have modified their activities in recent years, St. Luke’s continues to provide a monthly dinner. We prep food at the church on the Friday before the third Saturday and then cook and serve at the Coalition on the third Saturday.
If you are interested in volunteering to:
- Prep food (mostly dicing vegetables) at St. Luke’s on the Friday, before the third Saturday of the month, noon-3:30 pm, please email Beth Ely at beth4slumc@gmail.com
- Cook dinner at the Coalition on the third Saturday of the month, 1:00-5:00 pm, please email Beth Ely at beth4slumc@gmail.com
- Serve dinner at the Coalition on the third Saturday of the month, 4:15-7:00 pm, please email Amy Simon at asimon@st.lukes.org Note: The serving team is currently full for February, but you can still contact Amy to volunteer for future months.
Please note that some of the rules at the Coalition have changed and now volunteers must be at least 14 years old.
Our next date for prepping food is Friday, February 20 and we will cook and serve food on Saturday, February 21.
Our February menu is the Coalition guests’ favorite of the meals we cook – quiche (ham, sweet potato & cheese plus a plain cheese version for vegetarians) and homemade vegetable soup (vegan). We got the hams and pie shells when they were available during the holidays. We’ll get the eggs and canned tomatoes in bulk. We need your help with other ingredients and usual accompaniments to round out a balanced meal – cheese, milk, sweet potatoes, great northern beans, vegetables, and fresh fruit – plus homemade desserts for a special treat. Brownie, cookie, and cupcake mixes are available in the church office conference for home baking.

The Coalition guests are truly grateful for the love shown them through a fresh, flavorful, healthy meal. Your generous support in making this possible for 37+ years is very much appreciated.
