This Sunday, we step into a brand-new space together called The Commons. If you’ve ever spent time on a college campus, you know The Commons is not a place for lectures, but a place for life. It’s where conversations unfold, meals are shared, friendships are formed, and meaningful moments happen. It’s where you don’t just learn something, you experience it. That’s the vision and direction for this Eastertide season. After journeying through Lent in our Crossroads series (where we found love during and within life’s intersections), we now move into a season where resurrection life becomes visible in everyday ways. The Commons is where faith is embodied in community, practiced in relationships, and lived out through presence.
Our focus this Sunday is “Recognize,” rooted in the story of the road to Emmaus found in the good ol’ Gospel of St. Luke 😊 (24:13–35). In the afternoon on that first Easter, two disciples are walking together, processing grief, confusion, and unmet expectations. As they walk, the Risen Lord comes alongside them, but they do not recognize Him. It is only later, when they sit at the table and Jesus breaks the bread, that their eyes are opened. In that moment, they realize He has been with them all along. This story reminds us of a powerful truth that Jesus often walks with us before we recognize Him. He is present in our conversations, our struggles, and our daily lives, even when we are unaware.
This Sunday is an invitation to begin seeing differently. It is an invitation to recognize that Jesus is already present in our relationships and in the rhythms of our lives. That is why The Commons matters so deeply. It represents the spaces where life happens and we share meals, ask honest questions, extend grace, and notice that Christ is already among us. Resurrection is not just something we celebrate once a year; it is something we live out together.
As we gather, we will also reflect on what it means to walk together as a church family. At St. Luke’s, we use the language of partnership instead of membership because it captures the reality that we are not simply attending church, we are journeying together.
If you haven’t done so already, we invite you to take a next step through our upcoming Discover & Partnership Classes, and to find connection in our Life Together Groups, where faith becomes tangible through relationships. We also celebrate the sacred milestones of life, like welcoming new babies through ABC, children moving up through Jump Up Sunday, students transitioning into youth through Rise Up, and honoring graduates on Graduation Sunday. These moments matter because they remind us that Christ is present in every stage of life, sanctifying our journey from beginning to end.
If the past few years, months, and even days have taught us anything, it is how deeply we need connection, community, and meaningful celebration. We have learned new ways to show up for one another and have rediscovered how important it is to honor life’s moments together. As we enter this new series, we reclaim a simple and powerful truth: celebrating Jesus matters and recognizing His presence changes everything.
So, as we prepare for worship this Sunday, consider this question: Where is Jesus already present in your life, and are you recognizing Him? He may be walking with you in your questions, sitting with you in your struggles, or revealing Himself through the people around you. This Sunday, we gather in The Commons to discover that Jesus is already here, already moving, and already among us.
Join us, as we recognize Him through one another, especially has we come to the Table for Holy Communion. Together, we will learn to lead lives of Christ-centered love.
With love,
Pastor Corey
