Dear St. Lukers,
I know it’s not June yet, but with Memorial Day weekend being over, the school year coming to a close, graduates are throwing their caps, and it’s already hit 100 degrees–let’s go ahead and claim that summer is officially upon us! Cue the flip flops, sunscreen, and the eternal search for parking at the beach. While summer vacation fun has started, St. Lukers are still learning, living, loving, and leading their lives with God’s story.
Next week begins our summer theatre camp, preschool summer camp, and elementary summer camp (for ages 5-13 in partnership with Camp Windermere), followed two weeks later by Vacation Bible School. Starting Monday, our campus will have more than 250 kids daily (and even more youth and adult volunteers) enjoying creativity, fun, and learning about God in new and exciting ways. Our youth and adults are gearing up for Mission trips to Belfast, Washington D.C., Rwanda, and around Florida to share God’s love, learn about beloved community, and make a difference. AND we still have 45 of us diving into the deep end of the Old Testament every Monday with our Disciple 1 study.
So, before you pack the cooler or fire up the grill, we hope you’ll join us this Sunday as we finish out our Be Alive worship series with a message titled (RE)flect. Because that’s exactly what this summer is all about – no matter where we go, no matter what we do, may we BE reflections of resurrection life!
This is the first Sunday of the month, which means it’s an ALL-IN Sunday– this is when our youngest St. Lukers join us in the worship experience. We will be gathering around the Communion table to be reminded of who we are and whose we are: beloved, forgiven, and called to reflect Christ’s love. We’ll be diving into Ephesians 5, where we’re reminded that once we were darkness, but now—we are light in the Lord. That’s right, friends, you are walking, talking, glow sticks for Jesus! (How‘s that for a summer metaphor?) As summer begins, let’s commit to not just catching some “son” light—let’s reflect his light in all we do.
See you Sunday—sun hats optional, Spirit required.
Grace & peace,
Jenn.
