Disaster Response

Posted on August 16, 2023 at 8:30 am in .

We ask for your prayers for the many people and families affected by the recent wildfires in Hawaii, as well as our neighbors in Florida affected by Hurricane Idalia.

Hurricane Idalia Flood Buckets Needed!

For our Florida neighbors affected by Hurricane Idalia, the pressing need currently is for flood buckets.

Thousands of Florida homes are grappling with water damage resulting from Hurricane Idalia’s flooding. To aid in the recovery, the state and other agencies has urgently requested a truckload of these essential supplies from the Florida United Methodist conference.

Here is the list of items that go into the flood bucket and directions. https://umcmission.org/umcor-cleaning-kit/. The video is 1 minute long and shows how to pack the 5 gallon bucket with the cleaning supplies.

Here are some purchasing options:

  • 5-gallon bucket
  • Bucket and all cleaning supplies requested
  • Bucket and some supplies

The bucket is crucial to transport and for flood victims. So, we are NOT encouraging loose cleaning supplies.

Items may not be added to the bucket! Sticking to the list provided is important for packing, efficiency in transporting & storing, and avoiding waste.

Please see Disaster Response Buckets-Cleaning Kit Materials List, as well as Supply Bucket Assembly Directions below for details.

Please drop these items off on Sunday, September 3 to Building C (in the designated areas).

• Scouring pads and trash bags can be separated, in order to fit all items in the bucket.

• Clothespins may also be placed in a small re-sealable bag.

• Secure the lid on the filled bucket.

Important Notes

• All items must be new

• All cleaning agents must be in liquid form. No powders are accepted.
