After a strong start to our new sermon series, “Psalms: A Soundtrack for Summer,” presented last week by Shelly Denmark and Will Wold, Pastor Corey and I join you for Week Two with Psalm 46. In the middle of that Psalm are the familiar words, “Be still, and know that I am God.” It might come as a surprise to you that this does not primarily refer to monastic silence, quiet time in meditation, or a new parent’s wish at 2:00 a.m. In the context of the Psalm, it has to do with ceasing our feeble attempts to take control of challenging situations by using every trick in our books, and instead trusting a God whom we cannot see, but upon whom we can depend. Sometimes people tell me that they feel like I am preaching just to them, and my response has always been, “No, I was preaching to myself and letting you listen in.” Come eavesdrop on my sermon to myself about trusting God or do that with Pastor Corey in the Coleman Memorial Gymnasium on Sunday.

Vacation Bible School ended with a roof-raising celebration in the sanctuary a week ago. I captured the fun at the end with a selfie.

That’s me with the neon wig and pink glasses in the corner. Jayne Andrews makes me dress up every year for VBS, and while this was her interpretation of “Dr. Wow,” it sure beats the year I had to wear the bumblebee suit with the stinger! But last week was not the end of the fun for our kids around here. St. Luke’s School of the Arts day camps have begun, and cool stuff continues even on the hottest of Orlando days.

Be watching your email and snail mail for an opportunity to “make a splash” by diving into St. Luke’s summer giving pool. Pastor Jenn and I are calling for everyone to dive in and support the ministries of St. Luke’s that continue all year round.

And in that regard, our new software for receiving online gifts requires us to update our personal information, so when you click on the link to give, you will be re-directed to a webpage with instructions on how to complete this process.  Please be sure to complete this process as your current setup will stop functioning as of June 30.

With gratitude for all U do to make STLUKE’S who we are,

Bill
